The Limes Class

 February Blog In January, we practiced getting back into our routines after our winter break. Our themes we focused on were "Then and Now" and "Winter". We read the story "Long Ago or Today?" and compared things that people had and did in the past to things that we have and do today. We had so much fun in pretend play, cooking our food over the fire like people did long ago and cooking food in the oven like people do today. As we transitioned to learning about winter, we read "Counting in the Winter". Students learned about and created both polar bears and penguins. We talked about how our theme, "Then and Now" can apply to penguins - being in their egg "back then", hatching, and "now" being a penguin. We practiced counting different winter objects and animals while also practicing identifying numbers 1-10. January Blog We hope everyone had a great winter break! In December, we learned about holidays and traditions. We read the stories, "Holiday Traditions", "The Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bell", and "The Gingerbread Man". We practiced answering wh- questions, identifying objects, identifying traditions, putting objects "in", and sorting big and small as we read our stories. In pretend play, we had a tree set up that could be decorated and food to cook/bake as another tradition students could practice together. In Letterland we met Fire Fighter Fred and reviewed our previous Letterland friends. In math, we have continued practicing our counting, number identification, and shapes. December Blog Check out all of the fun and hard work in the Limes class during the month of November! After our visit to the farm, we learned about what animals and people can do on the farm. We read the story "Fun on the Farm" where we practiced identifying animals, identifying verbs, and answering wh- and yes/no questions. After our farm unit, we moved into talking about Thanksgiving and read the book "Thanksgiving Dinner".  We practiced using positional words to do things like put the turkey IN the oven and put the plates ON the table. In Letterland we met Dippy Duck and Eddy Elephant, as well as reviewed our previous Letterland friends. In math, we have been practicing our counting, number identification, and shapes. We celebrated Ms. Linda and Kathryn's birthdays this month. We are starting off December by talking about different holiday traditions that families have.
