April Blog Hope everyone had a great spring break! It is hard to believe that it is already the 4th quarter. It has been so fun to see everyone in class growing and progressing in their skills! During March, we focused on earth and space. We read stories about night and day, the earth, and learned about the different ways the earth moves. In math, we focused heavily on our shapes and locating them throughout our environment. Students made rocket ships and pizzas out of shapes. We also practiced using positional words to locate objects. In pretend play, students were able to practice being astronauts in our classroom space center. There were planets for students to practice identifying the attributes of, numbers to identify, and letters on our space station controls to also identify.  March Blog During the month of February, we focused on understanding needs versus wants, communicating our needs and wants, and practiced doing jobs that earn money (then buying the things we need/want). We had a bakery in the classroom and a housekeeping set up. In the housekeeping area, students practiced doing tasks we learned about in the story to earn money. Students washed dishes, swept the floor, cooked, folded clothes, and put away their nap mats. With the pretend money students earned, they could buy donuts, ice cream, and cookies from each other in the bakery. We read the stories "Clarence Earns Money" and "Needs and Wants". In math we focused a lot on various shapes and continued to practice our counting. In Letterland we met Jumping Jim, Kicking King, Lucy Lamplight, and Munching Mike. In the month of March, we will be focusing on outer spaced themed things. We are starting the month learning about change, day versus night, and environmental shapes!

 February Blog In January, we practiced getting back into our routines after our winter break. Our themes we focused on were "Then and Now" and "Winter". We read the story "Long Ago or Today?" and compared things that people had and did in the past to things that we have and do today. We had so much fun in pretend play, cooking our food over the fire like people did long ago and cooking food in the oven like people do today. As we transitioned to learning about winter, we read "Counting in the Winter". Students learned about and created both polar bears and penguins. We talked about how our theme, "Then and Now" can apply to penguins - being in their egg "back then", hatching, and "now" being a penguin. We practiced counting different winter objects and animals while also practicing identifying numbers 1-10.
