 May Blog Throughout April we focused on distinguishing between plants and animals. We read "Plants and Animals on the Farm", "Same! Different?", and "Grow, Garden, Grow". Students practiced finding similarities and differences between various animals. We planted flowers outside and discussed the needs of a plant. Students  continued  recognizing  numerals and worked on using one-to-one correspondence to count objects. In May we will wrap up our school year by learning about geographical places on a map. Students will practice using a map while we go "camping" in pretend play. Students will work to identify different geographical places that people can go - mountains, beach, lake, park, forest, etc. We will read stories about these different geographical places and see how people in our stories use a map to locate places they go.  February Blog In January, we practiced getting back into our routines after our winter break. Our themes we focused on were "Then and Now" and "Winter". We read the story "Long Ago or Today?" and compared things that people had and did in the past to things that we have and do today. We had so much fun in pretend play, cooking our food over the fire like people did long ago and cooking food in the oven like people do today. As we transitioned to learning about winter, we read "Counting in the Winter". Students learned about and created both polar bears and penguins. We talked about how our theme, "Then and Now" can apply to penguins - being in their egg "back then", hatching, and "now" being a penguin. We practiced counting different winter objects and animals while also practicing identifying numbers 1-10. November Newsletter In the month of October we learned about apples and pumpkins! We also started our weekly specials which include fine motor group, language group, music, movement, and social skills group. In the beginning of the month we practiced using our 5 senses to explore how apples look, taste, feel, smell, and if they make sounds. We counted apples out on our class apple tree, sorted apples by color, and painted with apples. In the latter half of the month, we learned about pumpkins and their attributes (big, small, orange, round). We read about and described varying kinds of Fall vegetables and decided if they were the similar or different from pumpkins. We finished out pumpkins with a sensory experience by pulling the seeds out and  communicating if we thought it was fun or if we did not like the mushy feeling.
